Meter-based maintenance

Meter-based maintenance

Service when the asset needs it. Runtime hours, odometer and engine hours drive triggers so you maintain on real usage. OEM and telematics data feed in where integrated. No more calendar guesswork.

How it works

Get started in 4 steps

1

Track meters per asset

Record runtime hours, odometer, engine hours or other metres on each asset. Enter manually or pull from OEM and telematics integrations where configured.

2

Set thresholds and triggers

Define service thresholds per asset type (e.g. service every 250 hours or 10,000 km). When a threshold is reached, work orders generate and link to the asset.

3

See due-soon and overdue in one view

Fleet and asset views show current readings, trends and what's due or overdue. Create work orders from the list; assign and track to completion.

4

History and proof on the asset

Meter readings and work order history stay on the asset record. Reports by asset, site or type for compliance, planning and audits.

Key benefits

Why usage-based servicing outperforms calendars

Service on real usage

Maintain when hours or distance say so. Not on a fixed calendar. Reduces over-servicing and under-servicing for mobile assets with variable use.

OEM and telematics where you need them

MapTrack integrates with a wide range of telematics, fuel-card and management sources for odometer, engine hours and related data. Use manual entry where you don't have a feed.

One platform with tracking

Meters and triggers sit with work orders, reservations and compliance. No separate CMMS that doesn't know who has the asset or where it is.

Audit trail

Proof of service and meter history on each asset. Reports and due dates for audits and planning.

Use cases

Meter-based maintenance in action

Plant and machinery runtime servicing

Track engine hours or runtime on excavators, loaders and plant. Set service intervals (e.g. 250 hr, 500 hr); work orders generate when thresholds are hit. OEM data can feed in where you have it.

Fleet odometer-based maintenance

Use odometer or engine hours from vehicles. Telematics or fuel-card integrations can feed readings automatically. Trigger oil changes, services and inspections when km or hours say so.

Meter-based scheduling for real usage

Full access to every feature. No credit card required. Per-asset pricing so you scale as your fleet grows.

Frequently asked questions

What is meter-based maintenance?
Meter-based maintenance (also called usage-based maintenance) triggers service work orders when an asset reaches a defined usage threshold (such as runtime hours, engine hours or odometer kilometres) rather than on a fixed calendar schedule. This approach services assets when they actually need it, reducing over-servicing on low-use equipment and under-servicing on high-use assets.
How does meter-based maintenance work in MapTrack?
You record meter readings (runtime, engine hours, odometer) on each asset, either manually or via OEM and telematics integrations. You then define service thresholds per asset type or individual asset. When a reading reaches the threshold, MapTrack generates a work order automatically and links it to the asset record.
What meter types does MapTrack support?
MapTrack supports runtime hours, engine hours, odometer kilometres and other custom metre types relevant to your assets. Multiple metre types can be tracked on the same asset and each can have its own service threshold.
Which plan includes meter-based maintenance?
Meter-based maintenance is available on Professional and Enterprise plans. Manual metre entry is supported on all plans. OEM and telematics data integrations are available on Enterprise plans. Book a demo to discuss your asset types and servicing requirements.
Can we import metre data from OEM or telematics systems?
Yes. MapTrack integrates with a wide range of telematics, fuel-card and OEM management systems to pull odometer readings, engine hours and related data automatically. Where you do not have a telematics feed, readings can be entered manually by field staff on mobile.
How do we see which assets are due for service?
MapTrack displays current metre readings, trends and due-soon or overdue status across your fleet and asset views. You can create work orders directly from the due list and assign them to technicians. Reports by asset, site or type are also available for planning and compliance.
How do I set up metre-based triggers for my assets?
During onboarding, your admin configures metre types and service thresholds per asset type or asset. For example, you might set a service trigger at every 250 engine hours for excavators and every 10,000 km for vehicles. The configuration is done in the asset settings and applies automatically as readings are recorded.
Can metre-based and calendar-based maintenance be combined?
Yes. MapTrack supports both metre-based and calendar-based (time-based) preventive maintenance schedules on the same asset. For example, an oil change could be triggered by whichever comes first: 10,000 km or 6 months. This gives you flexible service logic that matches manufacturer recommendations.
How does MapTrack compare to a standalone CMMS for usage-based maintenance?
Unlike a standalone CMMS, MapTrack combines metre-based maintenance with asset tracking, GPS, QR scanning and compliance in one platform. This means work orders are tied to the same record that shows who has the asset, where it is and what its compliance status is, without needing a separate system.
